LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS
(Mr. McFarland has applications for all of these, and will give the
seniors a packet or put them in a Google classroom in late January/early February)
Along with the scholarships listed below, there are scholarship awards in the name of Kenneth Cook for the top 3 GPAs (grade point averages) in the Senior class. There is $1,000 awarded to 1st in class (including ties), $750 awarded to 2nd in class (including ties), and $500 awarded to 3rd in class. (including ties) These scholarships will be awarded at Graduation.
There is no application for the Kenneth Cook awards.
Mar. 15 JEFFERSON COUNTY 4-H SCHOLARSHIPS
10 - $100 to $500
-must be a current Jefferson County 4-H member -must submit member's 4-H record book with application

Mar. 24 CATHERINE/HOMER THOMASON NURSING AWARD
1 - $1,000 to $2,000
-must have 3.0 GPA or above -nursing scholarship awarded to a senior in Jefferson county -be a well rounded individual, committed to academic excellence and community service
March 31 JEFFERSON COUNTY FARM BUREAU AWARD
2 - $1,000
-attend a Kansas college or university -interest in an agriculture career preferred
-parent(s) must be Jefferson County Farm Bureau Association member
-essay required:250 words or less describing your “goals"

UNIT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS (JCEEU)

-need 2.5 GPA or above -must show participation in school and community

-Essay required (300-500 words): How would you promote the local businesses of your community? Include realistic and practical ideas on how you would encourage the citizens, within your city and Jefferson County, to shop the local businesses.

- What life experiences have shaped who you are today? What challenges have you overcome during these experiences?
- What are your academic and career goals and your plans to achieve them? Discuss any of your extra-curricular or volunteer activities, both in and out of school, that have supported achieving these goals. How have these goals and activities shaped who you are today and allowed you to give back to your community?
- Describe an event in which you took a leadership role and what you learned about yourself through the process.
- Talk about a time when you celebrated a person’s unique qualities and traits and illustrate how it changed or improved both of your lives.
